Policy Advisor of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Mr. Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, has called on Ghanaians, especially people in the northern regions not to vote for politicians who campaign on tribal statements.

Instead, he asked them to vote for people in whose care the administration of the country could be left and not those who come to them saying “I am your brother so vote for me.”

Speaking to an enthusiastic crowd in Kumbungu in the Northern Region, Mr. Asamoah-Siaw expressed that some politicians including President John Dramani Mahama have taken undue advantage of the people in the three northern regions, describing them as his brothers only when he (President Mahama) needs their votes.

According to him, those politicians who come from the north capitalise on the lack of opportunities in the north for power.

“If President Mahama tells you he is your brother so vote for him, it is okay but let us ask ourselves since you voted for him what has he done for you in the eight years he has been vice president and president,” he asked amidst shouts of nothing!! Nothing!!

He added: “That is why we are asking you today not to waste your votes again in 2016, because you have not seen any improvement in your life within this period you voted for him (President Mahama), your vote has been wasted, but we do not want you to continue the wastage.”

He was equally not happy that many northerners were engaged in head potting popularly known as Kayayei in other regions in the country.

The occasion was also used to formally introduce the party’s parliamentary aspirant for the area, Abdul Fatau Abukari, to the people of Kunbungu.

For his part, 2016 standard bearer of the PPP, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, who introduced the party’s parliamentary nominee for the area, was happy that, Abdul Fatau has lived all his life in the area with the people, making him understand the challenges facing the people better.

The PPP’s entourage in the Northern Region included the flag-bearer Dr. Nduom, National Chairman,  Nii-Allottey Brew-Hammond, among other national executives.
